Most Windows users be familiar with that Microsoft releases security updates
once per month on the so called patch day. Only critical security updates are presented when it is necessary which just happened recently when Microsoft released a patch for the Internet Explorer vulnerability that was uncovered earlier.
Non-security connected patches are released more commonly and users with automatic updates enabled will frequently get little to no notice about these updates. Users without automatic updates on the other hand capacity not even know that new updates have been released as the Oracle over at Lockergnome points out.
